I was saddened to hear of the loss of Dave Wickett, founder of Kelham Island Brewery, owner of The Fat Cat, who was the guy responsible for bringing real ale back to Sheffield. He was one of those really supportive clients, I always enjoyed chatting with him.

I bought an iPad, basically because my son has one! Now in Hull, after taking three days to travel the Transpennine way, from Southport to Hornsea. Will catch up on Wednesday afternoon!

I am without the trusty Greystones Printing Fiesta, daughter Emily borrowed it for a while, until she had found a replacement for her ceased-to-be car. Surprised then this morning to have a phone call: “I got the phone number from your car” which happens to be 20 miles south on daughter’s drive in Nottingham, where the caller had been to visit friends a few doors away from Em’s. As it happens, he lives near us, and needs some leaflets printing. I think I might leave the car where it is!

I think so! After having been away to Sorrento for a glorious week, when we went along the Amalfi coast, took a ferry to Capri, took the train to Pompei, climbed Vesuvius and did loads more, we came back to foul weather, them more days off for Easter! Took part in the first hill climb event of the season in the works van (!) and managed a 3rd place, it’s now back to work!

Wednesday March 24th, the Smiths are heading off in search of sunshine, back a week later, sometime on Wednesday April 4th. Mrs Smith is singing with the Sing Live Choir, and her trilling will be taking us to Sorrento for a few concerts. I have to carry her music.

Well Matthew, today, I am thermographing. This is the art of applying a powder to the (wet) ink as the sheet exits the printing machine, then feeding the sheet through a heater which melts the powder, resulting in a raised, shiny image. I am using clear powder today, and black ink: the image is a line drawing of a local Hall, with the clients details, as a business card. On the reverse is printed a location map.

Thermography is not often used these days, as most clients these days print on a laser printer, the heat generated would remelt the powder, and the stunning look and feel of the image would disappear into a smudged blur. It’s fine for business cards though, especially when printed onto a really nice card.

Other powders I use are gold and silver. As I said, not often used, but.. it makes the image stand out! (pun intended!)

Yes, you heard it here first! The most popular font this week, for me anyway, has been Bradley Handwriting. Two weddings, and a flier for a newly-set up cafe have all specified this quite nice font. Wonder how long it will stay tops for? Look in next week!

Oh, I know, there shouldn’t be apostophes there. However, a lot of folks get ’stationery’ and ’stationary’ mixed up. As a printer, I produce stationery. OK, That’s Christmas and New Year’s Eve out of the way for nearly another year, so let the phone lines get busy!

Also, please bear in mind that Christmas will be towards the end of December, so please do not leave it until the last minute to realise that you need Christmas Cards, and in plenty of time to be posted!
