Oh, I know, there shouldn’t be apostophes there. However, a lot of folks get ’stationery’ and ’stationary’ mixed up. As a printer, I produce stationery. OK, That’s Christmas and New Year’s Eve out of the way for nearly another year, so let the phone lines get busy!

Also, please bear in mind that Christmas will be towards the end of December, so please do not leave it until the last minute to realise that you need Christmas Cards, and in plenty of time to be posted!

junk mail: does it have its benefits?

Well, I suppose it does: not only for the printer! Not that I have any clients for whom I produce ‘junk mail’ My marketing consultant pal Andrew Marsden would call it targetted marketing.

Anyway, the result of my receiving ‘jm’ was a subsequent order sent to National Pen Co, and is a nice box of pens for give-aways. When you call in to talk about your next print job, please ask if I forget to offer you one!

I am about to shut up shop for Christmas, a limited service may operate between Christmas and the New year, otherwise, may I thank all my clients for keeping us going during 2011, and we look forward to hearing from you in 2012.

I will call her “Julie” to save embarrassment (it’s her real name anyway!) She is a local artist, and had come to me to chat about photographing and printing one of her paintings. As she entered my workshop, she said ‘Oh, you are into Morgans then’ which impressed me: not only for recognising the photos of my car as Morgan, not ‘kit car’ She then went on ‘the frames are made of ash’ instead of ‘is the chassis made of wood?’ . As we looked at the computer screen, she said ‘Oh, you use CorelDraw then’. So, three out of three for this bright girl! Her stunning piece or artwork will soon be printed onto a textured off-white paper and card, and hopefully, she will become rich and famous.

Yes, February 29th 2012 will be a bonus day for us, and to celebrate it, we have produced a rather smart desk calendar in its honour. Including photographs by me and designed by my daughter Emily, it will grace any desk. To receive a copy, e mail me with the reasons why you think you should receive your very own calendar. The best one drawn out of a hat will win this sought-after collectors item. Otherwise, you will have to be one of my valued clients who has spent money with me in 2011!

visitors who leave their mark

Idly looking out of my print room window, as 4 huge horses walked past. Nothing too unusual to see horses in the countryside, but on my back lawn? Apart from some very deep hoof marks as our lawn is quite soft, we have quite a lot of erm….. poo, to feed our roses now!

Another job came in as a pdf with a load of (to me) glaring errors. And in a format that suited neither me nor the preferred method of print finishing. However, when the files arrived, it was Thursday, and the client phoned on Saturday :-( to see if it was ready! The job was collected (also on Saturday) and went down well with those who received it. So thumbs up there. Spect I will have to wait three months for the money.

If only the printer was consulted earlier, like when the job was being planned.

today’s job…

has come to me as pdfs, which had supposedly been proofed and signed off. Straight away, I noticed two glaring errors. I just cannot let work go out if I know of an error, so to be on the safe side, contacted my client, who had the job amended, and it is now being printed.

So, although we care, we cannot be responsible for supposedly print-ready artwork that has not been generated in our studios.

in 1983 was a guy called Trevor, who had just taken over a steel cutting company from his former employer, and so I was his first supplier! Over the years, I have done loads of work for him, the next job is coming up soon: wedding stationery for his daughter Julie. During those years, I don’t reckon either of us has changed, it’s just the kids who grow up!
